Days of the week

Monday to Sunday all end on the same "day" sound, so the words that rhyme with day rhyme with every one of them, on a lighter beat. A line for each day:

  • Monday

    It's Monday, hooray!
    A fresh week starts today.

  • Tuesday

    On Tuesday we play,
and learn something new on the way.

  • Wednesday

    It's Wednesday, okay,
we're halfway there: hip hip hooray!

  • Thursday

    Thursday's here, hooray:
the weekend is on its way!

  • Friday

    Friday at last:
    this week went by fast.

  • Saturday

    Saturday's a holiday
from work and worry: out to play!

  • Sunday

    Sunday is a lazy day:
rest, read, and go out to play.

Numbers and birthdays

For a birthday card, a countdown or a counting rhyme. Where no positive word rhymes, the card line borrows a cheerful one that does.

Mood, emotion, life and other words

The other words people look up rhymes for. Some have no positive rhyme at all; the box says so and gives the nearest help.

  • Rhymes with mood 3

    On a lighter beat

    Whatever the mood,
    start the day with gratitude.

  • Rhymes with emotion 1

    A big emotion
    deserves your full devotion.

  • Rhymes with life

No positive word rhymes with life. Wife, knife and strife do; the card line uses strife and lets the laughter win.

Here's to a long and happy life,
with laughter to cut through any strife.

  • Rhymes with positive

No positive word rhymes with positive. The words that share its "-tive" ending sound alike without rhyming: creative, active, attentive.

    Stay positive, stay kind:
keep the good things on your mind.

  • Rhymes with better

No word in our list rhymes fully with better; trendsetter comes close. Go-getter rhymes, and the card line uses it.

    On a lighter beat

    Every day a little better:
    you're a true go-getter.

How the matching works

Words rhyme by sound, not spelling: love and move look alike and do not rhyme; great and eight do. The finder compares how words are said in American English, from the last stressed vowel to the end.

A rhyme matches all of it: day and okay, five and thrive. A close rhyme lands on a lighter beat at the end of a longer word: day and holiday, eight and celebrate, mood and gratitude. In a song or a card, close rhymes work; in a strict poem, use the full ones.

The sounds come from the Carnegie Mellon University Pronouncing Dictionary (read 20 October 2026). 3,185 of our 4,654 words are in it. The rest, mostly joined words like award-winning, are left out rather than guessed from their spelling. Its licence is on our word data page.
